There are a lot of places to visit in Mexico for all different kind of preference, we have museums, architectural monuments, prehispanic places and of course modern places to visit, here is a list of the must places to go, I try to put together the nearest places in order to take a one day trip, but you can change the order:
Day 1 (All this places are walking distance)

In the Colony age, use to be the national palace, is located at the top of Chapultepec Park where beside the beauty of the place, you can have a nice view of the city (if you have a good smog condition)
Take the Turibus tour, you need to check the stops nearest to you, as far as I know one stop is in front of Auditorio Nacional, is a round trip and you can visit all the different Mexican suburbs, also you will have the chance to see one of the main streets “Reforma” which is full of monuments, Reforma street is the equivalent of Champs-Elysees in France
To finish this day you can take a drink in different nice bars located in the Polanco area, like the W Hotel or Habita Hotel or any one located in the Mazarik Street, this street is well known for the bars and nice and expensive stores.
Day 2
Centro Histórico de la ciudad (Historic Centre, a.k.a Zócalo)
